FCC Cracks Down on Robocalls with Enforcement Actions and New Rules

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced new enforcement and rulemaking actions designed to hold voice service providers accountable. Key highlights include:
Enforcement Orders: Over 2,400 voice service providers have been ordered to address deficiencies in their Robocall Mitigation Database (RMD) filings. Non-compliance could lead to their removal, barring other providers from routing their call traffic.
Proposed New Rules: The FCC aims to strengthen database compliance through mandatory annual re-certification, stricter filing standards, and penalties for inaccuracies or outdated submissions.
Task Force Collaboration: A bipartisan effort by 51 attorneys general continues to crack down on companies transmitting suspected illegal robocalls.
FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel emphasized that providers must actively participate in eliminating robocalls or face exclusion from U.S. networks. These actions reinforce the FCC's broader efforts, including record-breaking fines, blocking international scam gateways, and implementing STIR/SHAKEN caller ID authentication.
