Carriers and Voice Providers Expand Collaboration Against Fraud
Compliance Insights
Key takeaways from CFCA's 2026 fall educational event
Telecom carriers and voice service providers are getting more tools to find and stop fraud across the network. At the Communications Fraud Control Association's (CFCA) 2026 Fall Educational Event, the main theme was information sharing. Carriers, voice service providers, financial institutions, analytics vendors, and the Industry Traceback Group (ITG) are coordinating earlier and more directly to stop serious fraud before it reaches consumers.
Much of the discussion focused on impersonation scams. These include calls impersonating the IRS and other government agencies, and targeted spearphishing aimed at bank customers.
Sessions covered:
A case study in which carriers, a major bank, and the ITG worked together on spoofed calls using a financial institution's legitimate contact center numbers, tracing the traffic to its source, informing affected customers, and preparing a referral to law enforcement.
Anti-spoofing tools for financial institutions.
Detection of brand impersonation.
New visibility into caller reputation.
What this means for Convoso customers
These efforts should reduce fraud and rebuild consumer trust in the voice channel. That benefits every legitimate business that relies on outbound calling.
It also means calling activity is being analyzed and shared across the ecosystem faster than before.
Practical takeaways:
Keep your business identity and caller ID information accurate and consistent. Gaps between who a caller is and how its calls present are exactly what these systems are designed to catch.
Expect traceback requests to move faster. Be ready to provide consent and call-purpose documentation promptly when asked.
Watch how your numbers are labeled. Use available reputation tools to deal with flagging issues early.
Convoso will continue to work with the ITG, carriers, and industry partners on fraud mitigation, and to help customers maintain compliant calling practices.
